MBABANE — Nkosinathi Dlamini, popularly known as Umbutfo ‘Longekho’, has credited His Majesty King Mswati III for elevating boxing in Eswatini to international level, saying the sport has grown significantly under royal leadership, allowing emaSwati athletes to compete internationally and benefit from youth empowerment programmes.
Dlamini said that boxing has developed from a local sport into a structured discipline that now gives young athletes exposure and opportunities beyond Eswatini’s borders.
He praised His Mijesty King Mswati III for his continued investment in sports development, saying it has played a key role in shaping boxing and empowering young people through sport.
“I appreciate His Majesty King Mswati III for giving us opportunities. Boxing has helped us grow in discipline, leadership and confidence,” said Dlamini.
He also acknowledged the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs for supporting boxing development and ensuring athletes are exposed to international competition.
According to information sourced from the Ministry of Home Affairs facebook page, boxing continues to contribute to youth empowerment and national development as more young people engage in structured sporting programmes.
Dlamini added that these developments have made it possible for emaSwati boxers to travel, compete and gain valuable international experience.
He said boxing remains an important tool for instilling discipline, resilience and leadership among young people, while keeping them positively engaged.
He concluded that boxing now stands as a symbol of national progress, showing how sport can transform lives and unlock talent in Eswatini.
Boxing in Eswatini continues to emerge as a powerful platform for youth empowerment, discipline and national pride. With increased support from leadership and sporting structures, the sport is creating more opportunities for emaSwati athletes to compete at international level.
