MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has been invited to Uganda by the East African country’s President Yoweri Museveni.

According to reports from local media houses, the King’s invitation was relayed by Uganda’s new High Commissioner, His Excellency (HE) Paul Amoru, whose letter of credence was received yesterday (Thursday, July 18, 2024) by His Majesty the King at Lozitha Palace.

In response, the King accepted the invitation, as he saw it as an opportunity to help in strengthening ties between the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Republic of Uganda. Eswatini and Uganda have good bilateral relations and both countries work together in various continental and economic and political blocs. The blocs include the African Union (AU), United Nations (UN), the Non Aligned Movement (NAM), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), among other groups.

Making his remarks during the presentation of the letters, HE Amoru thanked His Majesty the King for ensuring that Ugandan nationals in the country enjoyed a good stay in the country. He said there were hundreds of them who stayed in the country for many different reasons. He said some were here to work in various sectors, including education and health.

Making his remarks, the King expressed gratitude to the Ugandan Government for seeing it fit that the bilateral relations could be renewed. The King expressed concern that Africa had many mineral resources, which were in demand in the international markets. However, the people of the continent continued to suffer, despite the abundance of the resources.

Before receiving letters of credence from HE Amoru, the King had received letters of credence from the High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Lesotho, HE Ntsime Jafeta. HE Jafeta mentioned that the relations of the two kingdoms had been dormant. He said it was for that reason he had been sent by His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho to renew the relations with Eswatini.

His Majesty King Mswati III told HE Jafeta that the time had come for the two countries to work hard in finding areas where they could cooperate. His Majesty the King has received nine letters of credence since the beginning of the year.
