PIGG’S PEAK – Nginamadvolo Primary School in Pigg’s Peak now has reason to smile, as the Komati Basin Water Authority (KOBWA) handed over a new E330 000 block of pit latrine toilets.

The facility features two toilets for girls, two for boys, and one for learners with disabilities, a bold move toward better health and sanitation.

KOBWA CEO Clement Shongwe described the project as a long-term investment, saying, “These toilets could stand strong for over 50 years if well maintained. We urge the school to take care of this facility so it can serve many generations.”

School Committee Chairperson Herbert Phiri highlighted ongoing challenges, noting, “While we are grateful for this support, we still lack staff toilets and access to clean water. Our enrolment is low, and the school depends heavily on government assistance to stay open.”

Despite these hurdles, pupils are now walking taller. One Grade 6 learner said, “We are happy because now we have toilets we can use safely and privately. It makes coming to school much better.”

For the children of Nginamadvolo, dignity is no longer out of reach.
