PIGG’S PEAK – More than 30 male and female correctional officers at Pigg’s Peak Correctional Service engaged in discussions on the importance of maintaining a healthy home environment to improve productivity at work during an outreach visit by the Lisango Movement on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Led by founder Muzi Nxumalo, the movement engaged officers on how stability and wellbeing at home can positively influence their performance, concentration and relationships in the workplace.
The visit was aimed at encouraging officers to recognise the connection between their personal and family lives and their professional responsibilities, while promoting healthier home environments as a foundation for improved productivity.
Addressing the officers, Nxumalo emphasised the importance of taking care of issues at home, noting that a healthier and more supportive home environment can help individuals perform better in their respective workplaces.
The discussion brought together more than 30 officers, both men and women, reflecting the centre’s staffing structure, which includes a women’s wing.
The engagement provided a platform for officers to reflect on the role that family wellbeing plays in their daily responsibilities and the importance of addressing challenges at home in ways that support personal and professional growth.
Lisango Movement’s outreach is aligned with its broader mandate of promoting men’s wellbeing, encouraging responsible behaviour and strengthening families as part of efforts to prevent gender-based violence (GBV).
Through conversations that encourage people to confront challenges affecting their homes and relationships, the movement seeks to promote peaceful households, mutual understanding and accountability.
The initiative also highlights the importance of extending wellness conversations to workplaces, where employees carry responsibilities that can be affected by their circumstances outside working hours.
Superintendent Dumisane Mabuza, Deputy Officer in Charge at Pigg’s Peak Correctional Centre, expressed appreciation for the movement’s initiative and encouraged the organisation to return for future engagements.
“We would like to thank the Lisango Movement for such an initiative. We appreciate you taking the time to engage our officers on an issue that affects their lives both at home and at work. We would like to see you come back in the future,” said Mabuza.
His remarks underscored the center’s appreciation for initiatives that create opportunities for officers to engage on issues affecting their wellbeing.
The visit demonstrated the potential value of partnerships between community-based organizations and public institutions in promoting personal development and healthier working environments.
For Lisango Movement, engaging correctional officers was an opportunity to take its message beyond the wider community and into the workplace, reinforcing the importance of family wellbeing, responsible conduct and positive relationships.
By encouraging officers to pay attention to their home environments, the initiative sought to promote the understanding that productivity at work is influenced not only by professional skills and discipline, but also by the wellbeing of individuals outside the workplace.
