MBABANE — Lungelo Mlangeni is rapidly emerging as a rising star in the mountain biking world, capturing attention across the region with a series of inspiring victories and standout performances.
Most recently, Mlangeni clinched first place in the prestigious Enjabulweni MTB Race, solidifying his reputation as one of the top competitors on the circuit. His passion for cycling was sparked at just 14 years old when he managed to purchase a second-hand bicycle for training. Though the bike was initially unfit for racing, Mlangeni’s determination drove him to push its limits, mirroring his relentless drive for excellence.
“I loved sports from a young age, but getting a bicycle was tough,” Mlangeni shared. “With wisdom, I saved enough to buy a second’hand bicycke. It wasn’t ideal, but I was determined to make it work.” Shared Mlangeni.
That determination paid off. His Enjabulweni victory is just one in a series of notable wins. Mlangeni also claimed the top spot in the Enkonyeni MTB Race, Kusekhaya Road Race and the Swazi Frontierer, a testament to his athleticism, discipline, and finely honed racing strategy. His consistent success highlights not only his physical prowess but also his deep commitment to the sport.
Reflecting on his journey, Mlangeni said, “I had faith I would win this year, even though the race was tough and there were many challenges. I never gave up, and I made it to the top.” He added.
Mlangeni’s victories extend beyond just these two races. His record includes triumphs in the previous Enjabulweni MTB Race, Kusekhaya Road Race, and the Swazi Frontier—each adding to his growing legacy.
