BUHLENI – In a historic move, His Majesty King Mswati III has blessed Lutsango with a public holiday.

This happened in the night of February 22, 2025 at Buhleni Royal Residence during the Buganu ceremony, when the king was delivering his speech.

His Majesty the King said the Monday after the Hlane Buganu ceremony would be celebrated as a holiday, in remembrance of the hard work done by the members of Lutsango regiment in improving the Buganu ceremony, which had been held at Buhleni and Hlane Royal Residences over the years.

During his speech, the king noted that over the years, other regiments, such as Imbali, Ingaja, and Lacwebetelako had holidays dedicated to them in celebration of the hard work they did. However, the same could not be said for Lutsango.

To correct that, His Majesty the King said after some consultation, an agreement was made that the holiday of July 22, which was celebrated in remembrance of the late King Sobhuza II, be shifted to the Monday after the celebration of the second leg of the Buganu ceremony, which is held at Hlane Royal Residence.

His Majesty the King said the Lutsango day would be celebrated for the first time on a Monday that would follow this year’s Hlane Buganu ceremony.

However, the king emphasised that the Lutsango day would also be celebrated in remembrance of His Majesty King Sobhuza II. The king believed that King Sobhuza would be happy to have his day celebrated with Lutsango, a regiment that has played a vital role in cementing and improving Eswatini culture, while fostering unity among Emaswati from family level, right up to national level.

The announcement was met with great jubilation from members of the Lutsango regiment, which had been sitting down in the arena, listening attentively to the king’s speech. They could not hold their excitement, simultaneously praising the Head of State in many different ways.

The king praised Lutsango for continuing to honour the Buganu ceremonies over the years, stating that the celebrations had now brought together many people from different nations.
