MBABANE – There seems to be no competition for South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns when it comes to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Betway Premiership.
They won the 2024/ 25 Betway Premiership title on Wednesday evening, making it eight in a row and 15 times under the PSL since the 1996/97 season. Their rivals, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have only won four each Premier League titles under the PSL era.
Sundowns were confirmed champions after beating Chippa United 3-0 at Buffalo City Stadium in East London, Eastern Cape on Wednesday evening. They have one game remaining with second placed Orlando Pirates having four games in hand but cannot reach the champions at 70 points while they are following with 55 points.
Mamelodi Sundowns who eliminated local side Mbabane Swallows in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round will be officially lift the trophy after their final game of the season against Magesi FC at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday 9May 18, 2025).
Sundowns that are known as ‘Bafana Ba Style’ have the opportunity of adding another big trophy in the CAF Champions League. They will be playing Egypt side Pyramids who eliminated Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals denying an all-South Africa team’s final.
The first leg of the Champions League final will be played on May 24, 2025, kick-off at 3pm with the second leg on June 1, 2025 away from home, in Egypt.
