MBABANE – Mbabane East Member of Parliament (MP) Welcome Dlamini has called upon Msunduza community police to be united.

Dlamini made this statement during yesterday’s end-of-year prayer service, which the Royal Eswatini Police Service in collaboration with the Msunduza community Police, held at Msunduza.

The event started with a march from Msunduza sports ground to Emntulwini where the event was held.

While speaking during the event, Dlamini said he was concerned about reports in the Msunduza area that the community police were now divided and were no longer working in harmony.

Dlamini encouraged the community police to unite, iron things out, and work as a unity.

“I am deeply concerned with the reports I got that Msunduza community police are no longer united, yet they are known throughout the country as a dedicated team that is united and always supports each other when executing their duties,” Dlamini said.

He further encouraged the law enforcers to focus on eradicating crime in the area and its surroundings. He promised to address the division issue and promote unity amongst the community police.

Dlamini then led a donation of working uniforms to the community police, in the form of Boots and vests. He then thanked the REPS for its efforts in curbing crime in the area.

The event, which was also supported by the Royal Eswatini Police Service, was hosted at Msunduza sports grounds.

National Commissioner of Police Manoma Vusie Masango was in attendance and thanked the Community Police for their relentless efforts in fighting crime in the area. He also noted with concern the increasing number of young people who get into gangsterism. He donated handcuffs to the community police.

“We encourage the church to participate in the fight against crime and gender-based violence. We encourage church leaders and members to speak out. They should not be afraid to speak out as they also have a role to play here. We encourage churches to create platforms where they would freely speak about such issues, every Sunday,” Masango said.

In addition, Masango said the rising number of crimes has prompted police to take action to make a difference to prevent a situation whereby children are lured to commit crimes just because of poverty. He urged parents to avoid sending out their children to sell products at night as that leads to them being attacked or recruited into gangs.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Mbabane East Indvuna Yenkhundla Phindile Maziya, police officers, pastors, and the general public.

During the handing over of the working uniform, Dlamini said the community police were part of the community and had a positive role in society.

Dlamini said the uniform donation was a way of encouraging the community police to continue to perform their duties with the highest morale.

He expressed hope that this gesture would inspire and improve their services saying he wants to see Msunduza as a safe community.

Therefore, he thanked the REPS and other relevant stakeholders for making this day a success saying this day would not be a success without their commitment.
