MBABANE – The Minister of Health, Mduduzi Matsebula, rolled up his sleeves and met face-to-face with staff members of Mbabane Government Hospital in a heartfelt engagement that aimed to restore confidence and solidarity within the healthcare system.
The meeting, held on Monday (July 7, 2025) at Cooper Centre, was more than a formality – it represented a renewed commitment to collaboration, healing, and hope. The minister’s visit comes at a time when the country’s public healthcare sector is under strain, battling medicine shortages and lack of essential medical equipment.
The main objective of the meeting was to open an honest dialogue between the Ministry and healthcare professionals who have been working tirelessly under challenging circumstances. Health workers were given the opportunity to speak openly about their daily realities – from delayed drug deliveries to worn-out machinery and understaffed departments. The tone of the engagement was serious, but the Minister’s presence and willingness to listen injected a sense of cautious optimism among attendees.
“We are listening, we are acting, and we are determined to rebuild trust while restoring full capacity in our healthcare system,” said Minister Matsebula, addressing both management and frontline workers. He emphasised the importance of transparency and teamwork, noting that sustainable solutions could only emerge through active participation from all stakeholders.
The minister acknowledged the resilience of healthcare workers and expressed appreciation for their dedication, especially during a period marked by mounting public frustration. He also assured staff that tangible steps were being taken to improve the procurement and distribution of medical supplies, while working to fast-track repairs and replacement of outdated equipment.
Eswatini’s public health system has experienced some of its most difficult months recently, marked by criticism over inefficiencies and lack of support. However, the meeting signalled a new chapter – one that places dialogue, accountability, and cooperation at the centre of healthcare reform.
As the session concluded, health workers expressed appreciation for the engagement, stating that they felt heard. The overall sentiment was one of renewed hope, with staff and leadership united in their mission to restore dignity and efficiency in the nation’s healthcare services.
