MBABANE – Athletes in Eswatini have been encouraged to uphold integrity and compete clean as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.
During an anti-doping workshop at Bethel Court in Ezulwini, Acting Minister of Sports, Culture, and Youth Affairs, Owen Nxumalo, delivered a powerful message on behalf of Minister Bongani Nzima, emphasizing the importance of fair play in sports. The workshop, organized by the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) and the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA), in collaboration with UNESCO, aims to strengthen Eswatini’s stance against doping.
With the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region V Games set to take place in Namibia in July, the Acting Minister stressed that such initiatives are critical in ensuring Eswatini athletes maintain the highest ethical standards.
“This workshop is not just about preparing for competition; it is about shaping responsible athletes who uphold the values of discipline, commitment, and national pride,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to promoting fair play, ethical conduct, and compliance with international anti-doping regulations, acknowledging the vital role of EOCGA, ESRC, and UNESCO in fostering awareness and ensuring Eswatini aligns with global standards in clean sport.
“As you represent the nation on the regional stage, remember that you are not just competing for medals—you are ambassadors of Eswatini. Let your integrity be your greatest strength,” he urged.
The event gathered key stakeholders, including senior government officials, anti-doping experts, coaches, officials, and Team Eswatini athletes. Nxumalo concluded by expressing confidence in Team Eswatini’s readiness to excel at the Region V Games, emphasizing the government’s dedication to supporting athletes with the necessary resources to compete fairly and at their best.
