MBABANE – Minister of Information, Communications and Technology, Savannah Maziya, has been awarded the Visionary Leadership in Transforming ICT and STEM Education Award by Space Kidz India.

The accolade was presented virtually during the Young Scientist India (YSI) Grand Finale, held in Chennai, India, on 22–23 August 2025.

This prestigious recognition celebrates Maziya’s tireless efforts in advancing ICT, empowering women and youth in STEM, and opening global pathways for emaSwati girls to thrive in the space science ecosystem.

Inspiring Girls into Space Science

Under her leadership, Eswatini has proudly recruited and trained 108 girls through Space Kidz India’s Shakisat and Mission Chakat initiatives. These programmes enable girls to design and launch small satellites, giving them hands-on experience in cutting-edge space science and technology.

“This award is not just mine, it belongs to every Emaswati girl who dares to dream beyond the sky,” Maziya said. “From rural to urban communities, every girl deserves the opportunity to be part of the next frontier. Space is critical for our future, and we cannot afford to leave any of our girls behind.”

Her passion shines through as she highlights how the initiative is transforming lives:

“Our girls are so excited, because what they see is not only the future, but the present. Their participation has opened up a whole new world of possibility, showing them that they can lead in STEM, in satellites, and in space.”

A Global Partnership with Local Impact

The partnership between Eswatini and Space Kidz India demonstrates the power of international collaboration in STEM education. It aligns with the Ministry of ICT’s vision to bridge gender gaps in science and technology, while fostering innovation and inclusivity.

The Ministry of ICT has congratulated Maziya, noting that her recognition positions Eswatini as a country that nurtures innovation, champions inclusivity, and invests in future scientists and technology leaders.

Strengthening Ties with India

Beyond the award, this achievement further strengthens the collaboration between Eswatini and India, paving the way for more opportunities in ICT innovation, STEM education, and space science.

Maziya’s honour is not only a personal milestone but also a national triumph, symbolising Eswatini’s determination to inspire a new generation of innovators who will carry the nation into the future of science and technology.
