MQOLO – As the cool winds of winter begin to whisper through the valleys of Eswatini, the hearts of Mqolo Primary School learners have been warmed by a timely and touching act of generosity.
Mbabane East Member of Parliament, Welcome Dlamini, made a special visit to Mcolo Primary School today, bearing gifts that will make a real difference: 40 brand-new school shoes and 20 cozy school jerseys, all destined for learners in need.
With joyful cheers echoing across the schoolyard, learners, teachers, and parents welcomed the MP with open arms. The donation comes at just the right time, as temperatures begin to dip and many families brace for the challenges of the winter season.
“This is more than a donation—it’s an expression of care,” MP Dlamini said during a brief ceremony. “No child should have to walk to school barefoot, especially in winter. We want our children to learn with dignity, comfort, and confidence.”
The donation was met with emotional gratitude from both educators and families, some of whom shared stories of how difficult it can be to meet basic needs like school uniforms and shoes, especially during the colder months.
Headteacher Mrs. Thabile Mamba could hardly contain her appreciation.
“Our school may be small, but today we feel seen. These shoes and jerseys are a blessing for our children, many of whom walk long distances to get here each day. This gesture gives them warmth—not just physically, but emotionally too.”
For learners like 10-year-old Sipho*, who had been attending school in worn-out sandals, the new shoes mean more than just protection from the cold.
“Now I can run and play without pain,” he said with a grin, proudly lacing up his new shoes. “Thank you, MP!”
The donation aligns with MP Dlamini’s ongoing commitment to community upliftment and youth empowerment. He emphasized that education remains a top priority in his constituency work and hinted at future initiatives to support both learners and schools.
“When we invest in children, we invest in the future of our nation,” he added.
As the learners of Mqolo Primary School stepped out in their new jerseys and shoes, one could sense a renewed spirit—a quiet confidence that no matter how cold the season may get, the warmth of kindness will always shine through.
