MBABANE – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy has made an amount of E120 262 988.50 in a space of three months.
The Ministry has made this amount of money from June to September 2024, which is the second quarter of the financial year for Eswatini. The revenue was made through various activities such as electricity levy, fuel oil levy, mining permits, blasting licences, among other activities. The Ministry has also made the money through stamp duties, fees of office and other activities.
According to the 2024/25 Second Quarter Performance Report of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, the fuel oil levy brought more money to the Ministry. This revenue item will accounted for E85 257 432 in the period under review.
This item generated E40 486 523 from April 2024 to June 2024, which is the first quarter of the 2024/25 financial year. This revenue item will account for E161 947 692 in this financial year. The electricity levy, in the second quarter, generated 26 741 037.86. It is expected to generate E54.4 million to the Ministry by the end of this year and it has already made E13.6 million during the 2024/25 first quarter.
The issuance of mining permits, in the second quarter, has generated 554 950. The issuance of mining permits and blasting licences has helped the Ministry generate E209 150 during the first quarter of this financial year.
Geological bulletins and maps will contribute E16 000 in a year to the Ministry and an amount of E4 670 has been generated by this revenue item to the Ministry from April 2024 to June 2024. In the second quarter, E4 670 has been realised. Application fee for certificates of exemption or consent is expected to contribute E20 000 this year to the Ministry. During the second quarter, E14 050 has been realised under this item. An amount of E3 650 has been made as a result of issuing the certificates during the 2024/25 first quarter.
The Ministry is also expected to make E75 000 this year, in respect of application fees and granting of certificates of consent to subdivision of land. An amount of E15 750 has already been made from April to June 2024 in that respect. During the second quarter, an amount of E24 200 has been made under this item. Stamp duty fees will generate E20 million for the Ministry during this financial year and it has already made E2 679 861 in the first quarter of 2024/25.
During the second quarter, E 7 575 943.64 was made under this item. In August this year, this publication reported that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy projected that it would make an amount of E237 648 692 and an amount of E57 034 744 was made by the Ministry during the first quarter.
