MANZINI – What began as a book launch became an intense moment of worship when South African gospel minister Ncebakazi Msomi took to the stage at Metropolitan Evangelical Church, drawing the congregation into an atmosphere of praise, prayer and spiritual reflection.

Performing during the launch of Nozibele Mayaba’s Let Me Tell You Something on Saturday, Msomi filled the room with worship before taking the moment further by calling an altar call, inviting people to respond through prayer and surrender.

The congregation was drawn into the moment as Msomi ministered through music, with the atmosphere shifting from an audience watching a performance to worshippers actively participating in the service.

Her appearance came a day after she had performed alongside Eswatini gospel singer Nothando Hlophe at the Central Eswatini Circuit Gala Dinner held at Mavuso Trade Centre on Friday, October 2. The two engagements placed Msomi before different audiences in Eswatini over the weekend, with her Saturday appearance taking a distinctly worship-centred direction.

Msomi is no stranger to gospel music audiences. Originally from Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape, she began singing in church before joining the renowned South African gospel ensemble Joyous Celebration in 2010, where she spent seven years developing her craft and ministry.

Her solo career includes The 34th Psalm, released in 2021, and The 37th Psalm, a project inspired by Scripture. Her music has earned her recognition within the South African gospel industry, including an Ingoma Award for Song of the Year for Ukufezwa Kwamadinga.

In previous interviews, Msomi has described music ministry as an opportunity to connect with people and create moments through which they can encounter God.

That understanding was reflected in her performance at the book launch, where the altar call became a defining moment of her appearance. Rather than ending with applause alone, her ministry created an opportunity for those present to participate in a moment of personal reflection and prayer.

As the gathering continued, Msomi’s performance stood out as one of the afternoon’s significant worship moments, demonstrating how gospel music can move beyond entertainment to become an expression of faith and spiritual connection.
