BUHLENI – Nyakatfo’s Nicole Gule, known as The Ghost, is an emerging DJ bringing fresh energy to local stages.

At just 23, Nicole Gule, also known as The Ghost, is slowly carving out her space in Eswatini’s growing DJ scene. Originally from Nyakatfo kaHhohho, she’s one of the many young talents finding their rhythm with a dream and a deep love for music.

“For me, music is therapy,” Gule says. “It’s always been a part of who I am.” Inspired by DJs like laMazie, DJ Zinhle, and local stars such as DJ Quanie and DJ M.P.H.O, Gule’s passion for mixing began long before she touched a controller. But it wasn’t until last year that she officially stepped into the DJ world, thanks to the encouragement of local mentors DJ Cruise, DJ Eskay, and DJ Nibs.

Her first gig, a back-to-back set with friend DJ Luigi, was intimidating but marked the beginning of her journey. “I was scared,” she admits, “But playing with someone I trusted helped a lot.” Gule’s sets lean into Amapiano and House music genres that bring her the most joy.

What makes her sound different? “Most DJs play tracks everyone knows,” she says, “but I look for exclusive piano, something the crowd hasn’t heard yet.” While still finding her audience, Gule embraces each opportunity as a chance to grow. She doesn’t overthink her sets; she just loads her music and follows the energy. “As long as the music is on point, I just go with the flow.”

Her dream venues include; the MTN Bushfire Festival and the Farmers Market, and her current favourite track is Ungangilimazi by DJ Moscow and Brandon Dhludhlu. Like many emerging artists, she’s faced her share of challenges, especially performing at unpaid gigs under the promise of exposure. Still, she remains committed. “My passion comes first. Money is a bonus,” she says.

Gule looks up to stars like Uncle Waffles, DJ MBO and Zulu D, and hopes one day to raise the Eswatini flag and make a name for our country,” she says confidently.

Before every set, she has a quiet ritual: a short prayer and a sip of a drink to calm her nerves. “Going out to play is a risk, so I make sure I leave the house spiritually covered,” she adds.

Her message to other aspiring DJs? “Be brave. Don’t let anyone—no matter how long they’ve been doing this—shake your belief in your path.”

Nicole Gule may be new to the scene, but with her fearless attitude and love for music, The Ghost is one to watch. You can find her on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok at Nicole Christie, and also reach her via call or WhatsApp at 79074048.
