LOBAMBA – Nsingizini Hotspurs may have suffered a 3-0 defeat against Simba SC in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round at Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday, but the team remains determined and optimistic as they prepare for the second leg.
Speaking after the match, Head Coach Mandla Gqogi emphasised the lessons learned from the encounter.
“We have learnt a lot from the match, and we will take those lessons into the second leg. There is no need to panic if we concede a goal — this is only the first leg, and our focus is on the journey ahead,” he said.
The Hotspurs draw motivation from historic examples in African football, particularly the Orlando Pirates’ remarkable run from 1995 to 2000. Despite losing their first leg in the CAF Champions League, the Pirates went on to win the competition, proving that belief, resilience, and performance on the field can overcome even the toughest challenges.
Coach Gqogi added:
“We take inspiration from teams like Orlando Pirates. They faced doubt and adversity, yet they performed their best and achieved greatness. That’s the mindset we are adopting for our journey.”
Looking ahead to the second leg, Nsingizini Hotspurs are focused on improving their performance, maintaining discipline, and seizing opportunities to turn the tie in their favour. The team is committed to applying the lessons from the first match and displaying determination and fighting spirit on the continental stage.
Fans can expect a team that is resilient, motivated, and ready to challenge Simba SC in the upcoming fixture. Despite the setback, there is confidence within the squad that with the right strategy and execution, a positive outcome is still possible.
“We know the road ahead will be challenging, but our focus is clear. We are learning, growing, and preparing to give our best in the second leg,” Coach Gqogi said.
Nsingizini Hotspurs’ approach highlights the importance of learning from defeat and using it as fuel for improvement. The team’s positive outlook reflects a commitment not only to the game but also to representing Eswatini with pride and ambition on the continental stage.
With lessons learned and determination high, all eyes will be on Nsingizini Hotspurs as they seek to rewrite the story in the second leg, aiming to demonstrate that resilience and preparation can turn early setbacks into opportunities for glory.
