ESWATINI— The Royal Eswatini Police Service Community Safety Unit (CSU) has intensified community engagement programmes aimed at preventing crime and promoting safety, particularly among school-going children.
The outreach activities form part of the police service’s partnership policing strategy, which encourages collaboration between law enforcement and communities in the fight against crime.
During the week, Community Safety officers in Siphofaneni visited learners at Lavundlamanti High School, where they hosted an anti-bullying campaign aimed at educating pupils about the dangers and consequences of bullying in schools.
In another engagement, officers from the KaPhunga Community Safety Unit held a Gender-Based Violence and homicide awareness indaba at the KaKholwane Community Hall in partnership with the Khubutha Inkhundla Council and community members.
The discussion focused on raising awareness among professionals including teachers, nurses and other stakeholders on the impact of dagga cultivation, drug abuse, Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV), as well as road traffic accident prevention.
Meanwhile, the Community Safety Unit under the Lavumisa precinct hosted a one-day workshop at the Lavumisa Free Evangelical Church, bringing together community police members and Bagcugcuteli to discuss partnership policing and shared responsibilities in addressing serious crimes and gender-based violence.
In Nhlangano, police officers from various departments including the Drug Control Section, Traffic Unit and Anti-Drug Unit conducted an educational outreach programme at Makhonza Primary School in collaboration with World Vision.
The session addressed issues such as bullying, carrying dangerous weapons, theft, rape, child protection, drug abuse and road safety as part of ongoing efforts to educate learners and promote safer communities.
