SIMUNYE – The Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES) reinforced its commitment to employee well-being with a vibrant Wellness Champion Day held on March 5, 2025. The event brought together 302 employees, including dedicated wellness champions and contractors, to celebrate their crucial role in fostering a healthy workplace.
RES employs nearly 4,000 individuals and recognises its workforce as its most valuable asset. The Wellness Champion Day served as a platform for these champions to collaborate, share ideas, and further enhance their skills in promoting health awareness and disease prevention across the organisation.
Wellness champions are trained individuals within RES who facilitate access to medical services, actively participate in lifestyle health programmes, and consistently provide information on wellness. Their work addresses the ten dimensions of health and well-being, making them vital in cultivating a thriving and healthy workforce.
Managing Director Nick Jackson underscored the importance of employee health, stating, “Our employees are the backbone of our success. Their dedication and drive propel us forward.” He lauded the wellness champions as inspirational leaders and role models who cultivate a culture of health within the organisation.
Dr. Rhoy Shoshore, Human Capital Manager for Medical and Wellness, acknowledged the significant contributions of the wellness champions in shaping a healthier work environment. He emphasised the company’s continued commitment to enhancing employee wellness programmes, stating, “The year 2024/25 is a pivotal period for our medical and wellness initiatives, informed by ongoing assessments and feedback. Our dedication to enhancing the health and wellness of our employees remains steadfast.”
During the event, Dumisa Bhembe from Agriculture Production was recognised as the Male Wellness Champion of the Year, while Gugu Matsenjwa from the Sugar Warehouse received the award for Female Wellness Champion, both honoured for their outstanding contributions.
