MBABANE – When President Skhumbuzo Mbuyisa took the reins of the Rotary Club of Mbabane-Mbuluzi, he brought more than just leadership—he brought renewed energy to the club’s mission of changing lives.
This year, their impact echoed across communities, celebrated during the launch of the 20th annual Sibebe Survivor Challenge. The event, which drew adventurers to the majestic Sibebe Rock, also showcased the heart of Rotary: giving back. It raised both awareness and funds for the Sibebe Community Trust, while boosting collaboration among local businesses.
In a powerful display of support for local enterprise, the Rotary Club partnered with Elangeni Chicks to supply water tanks and poultry drinkers to farms in Ncabaneni, Mkhondvo, LaMvusa, and Shibani bo-Make. “We are so grateful that Rotary bought us a 5 000-litre tank and drinkers for our chickens,” said Oscar Dlamini of the Mkhondvo Multi-purpose Cooperative.
Clean water and sanitation were also high on the agenda. At Makhonza High School, the Rotary Club joined forces with the Mdluli Family to install flushing toilets, bringing dignity and better hygiene to students. Over at Kaphunga High School, learners now enjoy a renovated kitchen, electricity, and water taps—all part of a major upgrade made possible by a generous E150 000 donation from the Salvation Army. “Before, we used buckets,” shared Principal Swazi Khumalo. “Now we have taps and a proper kitchen. We’re deeply thankful.”
Healthcare was another area transformed. Sigcaweni Clinic was renovated and expanded, and the Salvation Army Clinic received a much-needed facelift and a vehicle to reach more patients. The children’s ward at Cheshire Homes got special attention too, with repairs and orthopedic shoes for young patients living with clubfoot.
Even during the festive season, Rotary’s compassion was evident. Elderly residents received Christmas hampers, a gesture that warmed hearts and reminded many that they are not forgotten.
With seven focus areas guiding their mission—from health to education and community development—the Rotary Club continues to be a beacon of hope and service in Eswatini.
