MANZINI – Music can carry the memories of a community, from the stories passed down through generations to the rhythms that find a place in modern life. Sintfu Festival is placing that connection at the centre of a new event planned for Eswatini this festive season.

The festival is scheduled for December 19, 2026, with its concept built around Maskandi, Afro-pop and the wider range of sounds that shape the country’s musical identity.

Its tagline, “Born of the Land. United by Sound”, points to an idea that goes beyond bringing performers together on one stage: using music as a meeting point for different audiences and expressions of culture.

Maskandi, with its roots in Zulu musical storytelling, has a strong presence across parts of southern Africa, including Eswatini. Afro-pop, meanwhile, brings African rhythms into contemporary popular music. Bringing the two genres into the same festival concept creates space for audiences with different musical tastes to share an experience.

Music festivals also play a role in keeping cultural expression visible beyond traditional settings. Eswatini’s arts calendar includes events that combine local identity with contemporary performance, while platforms such as the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture support the preservation and development of the country’s cultural heritage.

For Sintfu Festival, the challenge will be turning that cultural message into a programme that reflects the breadth of Eswatini’s music scene. The organisers’ save-the-date message has established the date and broad musical direction, but further details about the venue, performers, tickets and programme have yet to be confirmed in the information available.

The December date places the event within the festive-season period, when music gatherings can bring together residents, returning emaSwati and visitors. Its longer-term significance, however, will depend on how it represents the artists and musical traditions behind its theme.

For now, Sintfu Festival has introduced its central idea: a celebration grounded in the sounds of the land, with music serving as a shared language.
