NKILONGO- Elderly people in Nkilongo Inkhundla have expressed relief after receiving medical assistance during a Taiwan-supported medical outreach programme held at Mahlabaneni Primary School.

The outreach, which included the provision of medication and cancer screening, was welcomed by the community, with residents saying the initiative came at a time when access to medication at local clinics remains a concern.

Nkilongo Member of Parliament Petros Sibandze said elderly people were particularly happy to receive medication through the outreach.

“The elderly people are very happy because they have been assisted by getting drugs. As you know, our clinics don’t have drugs,” Sibandze said.

He said the outreach also provided cancer screening services, giving community members an opportunity to access services that they had been waiting for.

Sibandze said the community had welcomed the initiative, describing residents as happy with the assistance brought to Nkilongo.

He explained that the medical outreach followed a request he had made in his capacity as the constituency’s Member of Parliament.

“The community is very happy and they have been waiting for this,” Sibandze said.

The outreach highlights the importance of partnerships in extending healthcare services to communities, particularly those requiring access to medication and screening services.
