MBABANE – In a heartwarming show of gratitude, teachers from Eswatini’s Comrades Marathon team have extended their sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Youth Affairs for its unwavering support in facilitating their participation in the upcoming Comrades Marathon, to be held Petermariztburg, South Africa.

During a celebratory event hosted by the Ministry of Education and Training, marathon runner and educator Siza Dlamini explained the tremendous impact of the support they received, hailing it as a historic milestone for the teaching community in Eswatini.

Dlamini, who also serves as the headteacher of Mbuluzi high School and is a marathon participant himself, expressed the team’s excitement at being recognized for their dedication to sport. “On behalf of the athletes participating in the Comrades Marathon, we are immensely grateful for what the ministry has done. As the CEO has said, this is the first of its kind, but it feels long overdue. We may be educators by profession, but we are also proud ambassadors for Eswatini,” said Dlamini.

The Comrades Marathon, one of the world’s oldest and most demanding ultramarathons, draws thousands of international participants annually. Eswatini’s representation in this year’s edition marks a significant achievement and a source of national pride, showcasing the country’s growing footprint in global sporting events.

The Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Youth Affairs has earned widespread praise for its forward-thinking approach in promoting health, fitness, and national visibility through sport, not only for professional athletes but also among educators and grassroots communities.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to uplifting initiatives that foster national unity, resilience, and holistic development through sports and cultural exchange. This gesture of support is not only an investment in athletes but a celebration of the human spirit and the power of community.
