LOZITHA – Under the golden rays of an autumn afternoon, the gates of Lozitha Palace opened to welcome two esteemed diplomats whose countries have long stood beside the Kingdom of Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III yesterday received Letters of Credence from the United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Eswatini, His Excellency Colin Wells, and the European Union’s Ambassador to Eswatini, His Excellency Karsten Mecklenburg.
The ceremony, rich in tradition and mutual respect, reaffirmed Eswatini’s commitment to fostering and maintaining cordial international relations. His Majesty expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support the Kingdom continues to receive from both the UK and the EU, highlighting the role of dialogue in building peaceful and progressive societies.
H.E. Colin Wells reflected on the enduring relationship between the UK and Eswatini, a connection that has flourished since independence in 1968. “Our relationship matured into one between two equal nations,” he noted, referencing shared values, a common language, and cultural ties. He also spoke fondly of a shared personal connection with His Majesty, revealing they had studied in the same region of the UK during their youth.
The EU’s H.E. Karsten Mecklenburg echoed the spirit of partnership, celebrating over five decades of collaboration with Eswatini. “Our investments in free primary education, agriculture, infrastructure development, social protection, and green energy,” he stated, “are a testament to our unwavering commitment to the Kingdom’s prosperity.”
The moment was a powerful reminder that while borders may separate nations, shared values and mutual respect can unite them in common purpose—building a better future for all.
