LONHLUPHEKO – A prayer in motion, a message in music.
Eswatini Afro Hip Hop artist Aka Criss Tino (real name Mpendulo Mndvoti) has officially dropped the music video for his deeply moving track “Umkhuleko”, featuring the soulful vocals of rising star Young Zesh—and it’s already turning heads.
Shot with cinematic flair and spiritual symbolism, the video captures the raw emotion and hope embedded in the song. From scenes of quiet reflection to powerful depictions of resilience, Umkhuleko resonates deeply with anyone going through a struggle.
“Working with Young Zesh gave this project a spark,” said Mndvoti. “It’s brought new life to my music journey.”
The collaboration between the two artists grew from a mutual respect for music with purpose. Long before his current record deal, Young Zesh had expressed interest in teaming up with Mndvoti. The moment he heard Umkhuleko, the connection was instant.
“He told me, ‘This is a hit’ and that was all I needed to hear,” Mndvoti shared with a smile.
“Umkhuleko”—which means a prayer—is more than just a track. It’s an anthem of faith; reminding listeners that light still shines in dark times. With over 2,700 audio streams and counting, and growing popularity in nine countries, the song is fast becoming one of Mndvoti’s most resonant releases to date.
Blending traditional African sounds with contemporary Hip Hop, Criss Tino has carved a niche in the Afro Hip Hop scene. He’s already graced the stages of MTN Spotlight Top 20, MTN Bushfire Festival, and shared line-ups with music heavyweights like Bholoja and South Africa rapper and songwriter Cassper Nyovest.
His work hasn’t gone unnoticed—last year, Mndvoti was named Best Outstanding Artist in Lubombo by the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, cementing his status as a voice of strength and hope.
“No matter how heavy life feels, never stop praying,” Mndvoti said. “This video is for anyone who feels like giving up.”
