The Ministry of Health has today received a consignment of assistive devices generously supported by UNICEF and the European Union.

The handover, officiated by the Director of Health Services, Dr. Velephi Okello, included 8 customized wheelchairs, 9 prescription glasses, and 50 audio and hearing devices. These will soon reach identified learners across the country, ensuring that children with disabilities are fully supported in their learning journey.

Commitment to Inclusive Education
Speaking at the event, Acting Principal Secretary of Health emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring that no child is left behind.
“This aligns with our mandate to screen learners and ensure timely interventions, executed through the Schools Health Program. The initiative also aligns with Eswatini’s commitment to inclusive education, guaranteeing that children with disabilities are not excluded from mainstream learning environments.”

Gratitude to Partners
The Acting PS further expressed appreciation to UNICEF and the European Union for their steadfast partnership.
“We are deeply grateful to UNICEF and the European Union for their unwavering support, both financially and technically. Your commitment to the well-being of our learners has made this project possible and impactful.”

A Brighter Tomorrow
This collaborative initiative is more than a health intervention, it is a beacon of hope for many families. By ensuring that children with special needs have the tools to thrive in school, Eswatini is taking another bold step towards building a future where every learner, regardless of ability, can participate fully and reach their potential.
