MBABANE– University of Eswatini (UNESWA) student Vuyelwa Karabo Simelane has received an additional E2 000 and a laptop from the Ministry of Education and Training following her success in the 2026 SADC Tertiary Institution Essay Competition.
The E2 000 was presented to Simelane during an awards ceremony held today at the ministry of education conference room in Mbabane, while the Education Principal Secretary also awarded her a laptop in recognition of her achievement.
The local recognition comes on top of the E32 292 (US$2 000) and Certificate of Excellence she received after emerging as the overall winner of the 2026 SADC Tertiary Institution Essay Competition.
A projector was also presented to Simelane’s faculty at UNESWA, extending the benefits of her achievement to other students.
Simelane, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biology and Chemistry, thanked the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development for facilitating the competition and creating a platform for students to showcase their ideas.
She encouraged other students to remain on the lookout for competitions and similar opportunities, saying such platforms provide young people with an opportunity to have their voices heard.
Minister of Education and Training Owen Nxumalo congratulated Simelane on her achievement, saying her regional victory demonstrated the ability of young Emaswati to research rigorously, think critically and communicate their ideas with confidence.
Simelane emerged as the overall winner after competing against tertiary institution entries from SADC Member States. Her success has now earned her recognition both at regional level and additional support at home as she continues her academic journey.
