MBABANE – In a bid to promote socialization, community building, and address pressing issues affecting the youth, the highly anticipated Yithi Abantu 7-Aside Football Tournament is set to kick off at Sobhuza National Stadium on July 6, 2024.
The event, sponsored by Sportswear Eswatini, aims to unite young men and women for a fun-filled day of football and critical discussions. The tournament, which will run from 8 am to 5 pm, brings together 32 social teams and 15 normal teams which will be playing on that day. According to Mr. Mkhaliphi, the founder of the event, the 7-aside tournament is not just about promoting football but also about creating a platform for socialization, mentorship, and empowerment. “The event aims yo to talk about pressing issues for the youth. I have noticed that it is very easy to talk to the youth while they are united in sports and fun.” Said Mkhaliphi.
The event seeks to discuss critical matters affecting the youth, including gender-based violence, health, unemployment, and socialization. Mr. Mkhaliphi notes that it is easy to engage with young people about these pressing issues when they are united by something they love – football. The tournament promises to be an exciting and impactful event, bringing together young people from across the region to discuss social issues and have fun.
With a focus on promoting social issues and empowering the youth, the event is set to make a lasting impact on the community. In previous years, the tournament was sponsored by Intsakas and Eswatini Bet, which supported the first and second divisions, respectively. This year, the organizers are looking to expand their sponsorship portfolio and invite more partners to join the cause.
The Yithi Abantu 7-Aside Football Tournament provides an opportunity for socialization and community building, while also promoting women’s participation in sports. By uniting young people through football and dialogue, the event aims to create a positive and lasting impact on Eswatini’s community.
