MBABANE – The 2025 11th edition of the Khemani Road Classic has attracted a strong field of 170 registrations, further cementing its reputation as one of the most anticipated cycling events in the region.
Among the distances on offer, the 60km race emerged as the most popular, drawing 40% of the riders, while the challenging 100km route followed closely at 38%, demonstrating the determination and endurance of participants. The shorter routes also received solid interest, ensuring that the event caters to cyclists of varying levels of experience and strength.
In its latest registration update, MTN Khemani extended a call for even more cyclists to come forward and join the race. “We continue to encourage female riders to participate in next year’s edition,” organizers stressed, reaffirming their commitment to inclusivity.
This call comes against the backdrop of a dip in female participation, which stands at 11% this year, compared to higher figures recorded in previous editions. The drop was attributed to the absence of the popular Matsimela Ladies, who could not take part due to other commitments. Despite this, organizers remain optimistic and are actively seeking ways to inspire more women to take up the sport and showcase their talent in future editions.
The event has also attracted 24 teams from across five countries Eswatini, South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, and Namibia. As hosts, Eswatini dominates the field with 66% of entries, highlighting the nation’s deep-rooted passion for cycling. South Africa follows with 21%, while Namibia (5%), Mozambique (5%), and Botswana (3%) complete the international representation. Though Mozambique’s numbers dipped this year, organizers expressed confidence that their presence will strengthen again in 2026.
With registrations growing steadily and excitement building, the 2025 Khemani Road Classic promises to be more than just a cycling race. It is set to be a vibrant celebration of endurance, unity, and sporting excellence, bringing together riders from across the region in what is expected to be a thrilling showcase on Eswatini’s roads.
