EZULWINI– Accountant General Nomsa Simelane has described the forthcoming Fourth African Association of Accountants General (AAAG) Conference as a golden opportunity for Eswatini to grow its economy, strengthen public financial management systems and learn from some of Africa’s leading financial experts.
Speaking during a press briefing following a closed-door meeting of the African Association of Accountants General Executive Committee (Secretariat), held as part of preparations for the continental conference, Simelane urged emaSwati from both the public and private sectors to take advantage of the event when it is hosted by the Kingdom in December this year.
The conference is expected to bring together accountants general, public finance practitioners, policymakers and other stakeholders from across the African continent to share ideas, experiences and best practices in public financial management (PFM).
Simelane said the conference presents Eswatini with an opportunity not only to showcase itself as a preferred destination for international events but also to reap economic benefits arising from the influx of delegates who will attend the gathering.
“I would like to invite all emaSwati, particularly Public Financial Management practitioners from the Kingdom of Eswatini, including officials from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, government business entities, State-Owned Enterprises, local government and the private sector, to attend the Fourth Annual Conference of the Association of Accountants General,” she said.
She explained that strengthening public financial management remains critical to economic growth and sustainable development, noting that the conference will provide a platform for local professionals to engage with their counterparts from across Africa.
“This conference presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen Public Financial Management by providing a platform for sharing ideas, experiences and best practices with delegates from other countries,” she added.
Simelane also extended an invitation to students pursuing qualifications in accounting, economics and related disciplines, saying the conference would expose them to innovative approaches that other African countries have adopted in building resilient economies and professionalising their accountancy sectors.
“If we are to grow our economy, we must take advantage of opportunities such as this to learn from other countries about how they have built and strengthened their economies and the strategies they are using to sustain economic growth,” she said.
According to the Accountant General, the continental gathering will provide invaluable lessons on how governments across Africa have developed strong financial management systems and elevated the accountancy profession within their institutions.
She said Eswatini stands to benefit immensely from the networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities that will emerge from hosting the conference, adding that the event could play a significant role in advancing public financial management practices in the country.
The Kingdom is expected to welcome hundreds of delegates from across the continent during the conference, which is anticipated to inject revenue into the local economy through spending on accommodation, transport, tourism and other related services.
The Fourth African Association of Accountants General Conference will be hosted by the Kingdom of Eswatini in December 2026 and forms part of the association’s efforts to strengthen accountability, transparency and sound public financial management systems across Africa.
