MBABANE- Eswatini elderly, disabled, and vulnerable citizens are set to receive enhanced support from the government. This follows the Eswatini government’s plan to address current Labour and Social Security challenges faced in the country. This was revealed through the unpacking of the ‘Nkwe’ Policy statement issued by the government today (October, 22, 2024).
The statement unveiled a comprehensive plan to overhaul social welfare and security programs. The reforms aim to provide a more robust safety net for the elderly, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable populations.
A key component of the plan is the introduction of new legislation that will significantly expand the scope and benefits of social welfare programs.
“Government will enact legislation in support of social security for the elderly persons with disabilities and vulnerable populations which will practically and significantly reduce abject poverty ” reads part of the statement.
The announcement of these sweeping reforms has been met with widespread anticipation and optimism. Many Emaswati hope that these initiatives will make a significant difference in the lives of the most vulnerable citizens.
As the government moves forward with its plans, it is anticipated that the lives of the elderly, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable populations will experience a positive transformation. The implementation of these measures is expected to contribute to a more just and equitable society for all.
