MBABANE – Shiselweni based side Rangers believes that their Shiselweni derby against Nsingizini Hotspurs is now among the biggest games under the Premier League.
This comes after the match played last Sunday at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium draws a crowd of over 3 000 football supporters who filled the biggest stadium in the Shiselweni Region. Nsingizini Hotspurs went all the way to win the match 2-1.
The biggest derby in the country is the Mbabane derby between Swallows and Highlanders and it was closely followed by the Manzini derby, between Moneni Pirates and Manzini Wanderers while there are also forces derbies that involve the three forces team being Royal Leopard, Green Mamba and Young Buffaloes.
Rangers in a statement said the turnout during the match was amazing.
“The turnout in the past weekend during the game against rivals Nsingizini Hotspurs was amazing. We are genuinely grateful to all Rangers football club supporters, Nsingizini Hotspurs and football lovers from the entire region and afar. With no doubt the Shiselweni derby is one of the biggest game in the Premier League fixtures,” reads part of the statement.
Rangers said the huge attendance by their supporters was a true testament on how much the team is loved by its fans.
“You flocked the stadium in large numbers despite the unfavorable weather conditions just to rally behind you own and be the needed 12h player. Ye we did not get the desired results. Be assured your support revives and pushes our players to deliver in the next fixtures,’ reads the statement.
Rangers next game is against Moneni Pirates on Sunday at Mavuso Sports Centre in a double header that will also see Mbabane Highlanders playing Ezuwini United.
Rangers led by Sihle Mavimbela is seventh on the log with Nsingizini Hotspurs third.
