MANKAYANE – Crime won’t stand a chance in Mankayane, not with the “Nkwe” spirit in full swing and a brand-new police post now in action.
The winds of change blew through the town on Thursday as the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) officially opened a satellite police post, and the community came out in numbers to celebrate a day that blended partnership, purpose and plenty of “Nkwe” energy.
The slogan, known for its rallying cry in the fight against crime, was more than just words on banners, it was brought to life through boots on the ground, whistles in hand and a powerful show of unity between police officers, business owners, community police and residents.
Senior Deputy National Commissioner Emmanuel Sula Dlamini, speaking on behalf of the National Commissioner, didn’t mince his words when he stepped up for the keynote address.
He told the crowd that REPS was not only about arresting criminals, but about building bridges, trust and partnerships that made everyone feel safer.
He said that the fight against crime stood on four solid legs, police visibility, police professionalism, collaboration with the community and effective engagement. And judging by the support at the event, those legs are marching in step.
Dlamini revealed that stock theft, once a major headache in the region, had now shown signs of decline.
“We would like to see change and positive results on the work done by the police. For instance, the energy they put into solving murder and rape cases, we applaud them for working hard,” he said.
The new police post was the cherry on top. For years, Mankayane residents had to travel long distances for police services, but now assistance is just around the corner. It’s a game changer, locals said, and a visible sign that the days of criminals roaming free are numbered.
This bold move by REPS, in collaboration with everyday heroes in the community, paints a promising picture of grassroots policing in Eswatini. As one excited community member was overheard saying, “Nkwe is not just a slogan, it’s our way of life now!
