MATSAPHA – Former Ngwempisi Member of Parliament Mthandeni Dube has issued a formal apology to His Majesty King Mswati III. The apology was communicated today during the Correctional Services Day commemoration held in Matsapha, a fitting platform for a message of renewal and national healing.

The apology was delivered by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Prince Simelane, who relayed Dube’s words while on his knees before the King.

“He has asked me to be his representative to the King and apologise on his behalf,” said the Minister, adding that Dube also wished His Majesty a happy birthday and a long life. In response, His Majesty King Mswati III smiled and nodded, graciously acknowledging the message.

Mthandeni Dube was arrested in 2021 following a period of unrest in the Kingdom of Eswatini. He was charged in connection with political actions that authorities linked to incitement and attempts to destabilize state institutions. His arrest came during a tense period when the nation was grappling with calls for reform and expressions of dissatisfaction from some quarters.

Since then, Eswatini has made considerable strides toward healing and national dialogue. Various leaders and stakeholders, including government ministries, traditional authorities, and civil society, have embraced a forward-looking approach that emphasizes peace, unity, and development.

Dube’s public apology, especially made on Correctional Services Day, underscores the values of restoration and second chances. It serves as a powerful message that personal transformation and reconciliation are possible when anchored in humility and respect.

The warm reception from His Majesty reflects the Kingdom’s enduring commitment to forgiveness, national cohesion, and a shared vision for progress.
