MBABANE – Twenty Emaswati have been employed at the newly opened Hungry Lion branch in Siphofaneni.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, during the official opening of the franchise.

According to information from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Minister Khumalo stated, “New investments in the country create jobs and contribute to economic growth. I have been informed that Hungry Lion has committed to hiring and training local staff, which will create valuable employment opportunities, particularly for the youth of this community and surrounding areas.

Local companies are encouraged to provide the store with quality inputs, thereby strengthening the local value chain in business.” He noted that Hungry Lion has had a presence in Eswatini since 1999, with the Elangeni Food Group operating since 1994.

The minister further remarked, “The employment opportunities that have been availed by the business have assisted workers in leading decent lives and providing for their families’ needs. As His Majesty’s Government, we highly appreciate such positive contributions to the economy and urge other businesses to emulate what Hungry Lion has done.”

Khumalo emphasised the importance of collaboration within the business community, stating, “The business community has a prominent role to play in forging alliances with businesses in the same value chain. Hungry Lion has displayed their commitment to this endeavour by sourcing their meat and other products locally.”

Following the opening ceremony, Minister Khumalo visited the Mushumpula care point to present food parcels to local children, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to community engagement.
