Meet Temakhetfwa Maseko, a determined and talented designer from Mnyokane, who has proven that with passion, persistence, and creativity, it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve success. Her journey into the world of fashion is a testament to the power of resilience and vision, as she continues to carve out her own place in the industry.
Maseko’s journey into fashion began with a natural gift for sewing and design. Her talent was first recognised by her mother while she was still in Grade 7. Understanding the importance of nurturing her daughter’s abilities, Maseko’s mother introduced her to Babe Zulu, a skilled tailor in Mbabane, when she was in Form 3. Under Zulu’s guidance, Maseko began to refine her skills, laying the foundation for her future career.
In 2019, Maseko formalised her training by enrolling in a course at Kasebenta in Sidvwashini. After graduating, she officially began designing clothes in 2020, turning her passion into a profession.
Maseko’s creativity is fueled by her keen awareness of fashion trends and the work of other designers. She finds inspiration in new designs she encounters in stores and often reimagines them in her mind, adding her own unique perspective. “Staying informed about the work of other designers and emerging fashion trends helps me to remain relevant and innovative. Sometimes when I see new designs in shops, I express myself through those clothes and recreate them in my mind; it motivates me a lot.”
Her signature style is rooted in modesty and timeless elegance. “As a Christian, I enjoy creating pieces that are both timeless and modern, using high-quality fabric. I like clothes that will cover my body because modesty is my style; I really love it.”
Her creations go beyond aesthetics, they are designed to empower those who wear them. “When wearing my clothes, you feel confident and lovely. What I can tell you is that you won’t regret wearing my clothes. My designs are so unique and unknown.”
Like many in the creative industry, Maseko has faced her share of challenges. “My biggest challenge as a designer is that people order clothes with quality fabric but then bring to me fake fabric, expecting to get what they ordered. Sometimes I get customers that are so rude.”
Despite these challenges, Maseko remains committed to professionalism and delivering her best work. “Ethical practices are the best thing as a fashionista. Practices make perfection. I always practice to gain more experience in my career.”
Among Maseko’s many creations, the corset dress holds a special place. “My favorite piece I designed is a corset dress because corset dresses are in demand nowadays. Everyone feels so lovely and beautiful when wearing corset dresses.”
In addition to fashion design, Maseko has diversified her skills into event decoration. “I do decorations for small events like birthdays, and I’m working towards my goal because I want to decorate for weddings and big events. I also do hairstyles.”
Looking ahead, Maseko hopes to expand the reach of her designs. “As a designer, I want to design clothes for people outside the country. I want to design their unique attires and get more experience.”

Her commitment to blending modesty with modern fashion, her dedication to ethical practices, and her dream of making an international impact make her an inspiring figure in the fashion industry.
