MATSANJENI – A long-awaited development for the communities of Matsanjeni South and Hosea has officially begun, following the launch of a major concrete road construction project by Eswatini Micro Projects on 25 November 2025.
The initiative marks a significant step forward for residents who have endured years of difficult travel along a deteriorating road network.
The project will see the construction of 500 metres of concrete paving linking the two neighbouring communities. The contract has been awarded to Siyangetha Construction, with the work expected to be completed within four months. Once finished, the road is set to greatly enhance mobility, improve safety, and ease the daily journeys of residents who depend on the route for accessing schools, clinics, markets and other essential services.
For many years, the gravel road between Matsanjeni South and Hosea has been a major source of frustration for locals. During the rainy season, the road often became muddy, slippery and impassable, posing risks to motorists, public transport and pedestrians alike. Dust, erosion, uneven surfaces and poor drainage further contributed to daily hardship, limiting access and restricting economic activity.
The start of the new project has therefore been met with widespread relief and optimism.
Local leadership welcomes long-overdue upgrade
Sabelo Ndlangamandla, Member of Parliament for Matsanjeni South, described the development as a transformative moment for both communities. He expressed strong appreciation to Eswatini Micro Projects for prioritising the upgrade, noting that the poor road conditions had long affected every aspect of residents’ lives.
“This development brings genuine hope and positive change to our people,” he said. “For many years, Matsanjeni South and Hosea have suffered because of this road. Today marks a new chapter for our communities. We are grateful to Eswatini Micro Projects for prioritising this project, which will improve safety, restore dignity, and open new opportunities.”
Ndlangamandla added that improved infrastructure would not only ease movement but also help stimulate local development, enabling easier access to markets and improving service delivery.
Communities express hope and anticipation
Residents who attended the project introduction ceremony said the upgrade could not have come at a better time. Many expressed excitement at the promise of safer, faster and more comfortable travel, especially during the rainy months when the old road posed serious challenges.
Others noted that the consistent struggles with the road had affected school attendance, emergency response times and the transportation of agricultural produce. The introduction of a concrete road, they said, would significantly reduce these disruptions.
A pathway to progress
As construction gets underway, the communities of Matsanjeni South and Hosea look toward a future strengthened by improved connectivity and reliable infrastructure. For many, the concrete road project represents far more than a physical upgrade — it signifies renewed hope, stability and the potential for long-term development.
With the support of Eswatini Micro Projects and the commitment of local leaders, residents are optimistic that this investment will bring lasting benefits and contribute to the broader transformation of the region.
