SITEKI– Organisers of the Lubombo Marathon have called on athletes and companies to register before the closing date of 21 March 2026 as preparations intensify for the fifth edition of the race scheduled for 11 April 2026 at Siteki Sports Ground.
The marathon, coordinated by TZD Sports Club in partnership with Athletics Eswatini, is targeting more than 1 000 participants this year. The race will feature three categories: the 42km full marathon, 21km half marathon, and 10km race, giving both professional and recreational runners an opportunity to compete.
According to the organisers, early registration is encouraged to ensure smooth planning and participation. They highlighted that the first 1 000 participants to register will receive goodie bags, making early sign-ups even more attractive.
The organisers also revealed that Siteki Hotel has partnered with the marathon and participants who register through TZD Sports Club will receive discounted accommodation, making it easier for athletes travelling from outside the region to attend the event.
In a major milestone for the event, the Lubombo Marathon will also become the second race in Eswatini to be marked by World Athletics, following the well-known Imbube Marathon. This recognition is expected to elevate the status of the race and attract more competitive runners.
With preparations already underway, organisers expressed optimism that the event will attract a large turnout of athletes, corporate teams and fitness enthusiasts from across the country and beyond. They emphasised that the Lubombo Marathon continues to grow each year and has become an important sporting event in the Lubombo region.
The marathon is also expected to promote sports development and healthy living, while boosting local tourism and economic activity in Siteki and surrounding areas as visitors travel to participate and support the race.
Organisers urged interested participants to register early to avoid missing the deadline and to secure their place among the first runners who will receive the race goodie bags.
