MBABANE– The Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs has confirmed that Eswatini has submitted its Seventh National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity, outlining progress made in biodiversity conservation and the protection of ecosystems across the country.

According to information released by the ministry, the report was officially submitted on February 28, 2026, as part of the reporting obligations required from countries that are members of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The national report provides an overview of measures implemented to conserve biodiversity, including initiatives aimed at protecting ecosystems, safeguarding wildlife habitats and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. These efforts form part of broader environmental management programmes intended to ensure that natural resources are preserved for future generations.

Officials said the report also highlights achievements recorded in biodiversity conservation over the reporting period, while outlining some of the challenges faced in protecting ecosystems and maintaining sustainable environmental practices.

The Convention on Biological Diversity requires member countries to periodically submit national reports detailing progress made in implementing biodiversity conservation strategies and commitments agreed to under the convention. These reports are used to monitor global progress in protecting biodiversity and addressing environmental challenges affecting ecosystems around the world.

The ministry indicated that the preparation of the report involved contributions from a range of stakeholders working in environmental protection, conservation programmes and related sectors.

Through the submission of the report, Eswatini continues to participate in international efforts aimed at promoting biodiversity conservation and ensuring the sustainable management of natural resources.
