MBABANE- Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Senator Pholile Shakantu, has officially received the Letters of Appointment for Mr. Alankar Malviya, marking his formal assumption of duty as the UNAIDS Country Director and Representative for the Multi-Country Office covering Eswatini, Lesotho and South Africa.
The ceremonial engagement highlights Eswatini’s continued commitment to strengthening partnerships that advance national and regional health priorities. It also signals a renewed phase of collaboration between government and the United Nations system in driving impactful health interventions.
During the meeting, Minister Shakantu welcomed Mr. Malviya and underscored the importance of sustained cooperation in addressing public health challenges. She reaffirmed Eswatini’s dedication to achieving the global target of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030, noting the country’s strong progress and global recognition in the HIV response.
Mr. Malviya assumes his role at a pivotal time, bringing extensive experience in international development and public health. His leadership is expected to further strengthen ongoing programmes and support Eswatini’s transition from epidemic control to long-term health sustainability.
Eswatini remains a global leader after surpassing the 95-95-95 HIV targets, a milestone that reflects the success of coordinated national efforts. The country is now focused on closing remaining gaps, particularly among adolescent girls, young women and vulnerable populations.
The engagement between Minister Shakantu and Mr. Malviya reinforces Eswatini’s proactive approach to international cooperation and its determination to build a healthier, more resilient future for all.
