PIGGS PEAK – Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Changing Lives Association Thabiso Shongwe, visited Mswati II High School on April 9 , 2026, where he addressed learners on drug abuse and suicide affecting young people in Eswatini.
Shongwe told learners that many young people are struggling in silence and urged them to speak out when facing challenges. “I’m here because too many young people are suffering in silence,” he said.
He warned about the impact of drug abuse, saying it can destroy young people’s futures and derail their goals. “They steal your dreams. They destroy your future. They disconnect you from your purpose,” he said.
Learners attended the session in silence as Shongwe delivered his message, with many appearing attentive throughout the discussion.
He also raised concerns about mental health among students, pointing to pressure from schoolwork, family expectations and social media as contributing factors. He said these pressures can sometimes lead to feelings of hopelessness.
“Your life matters. Your story matters. YOU matter,” he said. “No situation is permanent. No pain lasts forever. There is always someone who cares.”
Shongwe encouraged learners to seek help when they are struggling and to support one another. “What is dangerous is not only what people go through, but going through it alone,” he said. “Speak out. Ask for help. Support each other.”
He urged learners to make positive life choices despite challenges. “Choose purpose over pressure. Choose growth over destruction. Choose life over giving up,” he said.
The CEO also invited learners to attend an upcoming Worship Experience Youth Empowerment Night scheduled for April 24 , 2026 at Divine Healing Ministries, which he described as a safe space for youth engagement and support.
He further encouraged learners with creative talents to participate in the Youth Rise Up and Ntfonjeni Arts Festival, saying such platforms can help young people develop their skills and future opportunities.
The visit comes as schools in Eswatini continue to raise concern over substance abuse and mental health challenges affecting learners.
