MANZINI – The Association of Christian Artists of Eswatini (ACAESWA) is working to rebuild its foundation and restore credibility following leadership challenges and structural gaps within the organisation.
At its Annual General Meeting held at Caritas in Manzini on Saturday, the association shifted focus towards recovery, transparency and long-term stability in the gospel music sector.
Addressing members, Secretary General Apostle Elvis Shongwe acknowledged the difficulties faced by the current New Executive Committee (NEC), describing their term as one marked by uncertainty and internal strain. He revealed that the absence of a proper handover from the previous leadership created operational challenges, leaving the committee without critical documents and guidance.
“Our journey has not been easy. It has tested our leadership, unity and spiritual strength,” said Shongwe.
The situation was further complicated by limited recognition from the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, which affected the association’s ability to operate effectively within the creative industry.
Despite these challenges, ACAESWA continued to function, organising initiatives such as the Uvukile celebration. Although the event fell short of expectations due to financial limitations, it highlighted the committee’s determination to keep the organisation active.
Internal governance issues, including resignations within the structure, also disrupted progress. However, the leadership has since prioritised rebuilding internal systems and strengthening accountability.
Efforts are now underway to restore relationships with key stakeholders, including the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority, as part of a broader strategy to create new opportunities for gospel artists.
In a move to stabilise operations, the association has registered as a company, a step expected to improve access to funding and enable it to operate as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).
Shongwe emphasised that the organisation is now focused on reapplying for official recognition while strengthening governance and unity among members.
“We are rebuilding and preparing for a better future,” he said.
The renewed approach signals a shift from past challenges towards creating sustainable structures aimed at supporting and growing gospel music in Eswatini.
