In a press release, the BPS issued on April 14, 2026, titled, ‘BPS READY TO DELIVER WORLD-CLASS SECURITY FOR WORLD ATHLETICS RELAYS’ the BPS Police Commissioner, Dinah Marathe, assured world-class security for visiting international athletes, which include emaSwati and native athletes to participate at the games.
Marketing and Communications Officer for Athletics Eswatini (AE) Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini confirmed Eswatini’s strong intention to send athletes to the games in Botswana.
“We intend to send athletes to participate at the games,” he said briefly.
According to the press release, the assurance of a world-class security by the BPS follows a virtual meeting convened by the Commissioner of Police, Commissioner Dinah Marathe, today (14/04/2026), with Senior Police Officers from across that country to assess the level of preparedness ahead of the International event.
“The Commissioner said Botswana Police Service stands ready to provide world-class security services to both citizens and international visitors attending this prestigious event. It is stated that the Botswana Commissioner of Police further noted that the police were cognisant that some international visitors are expected to arrive in that city well ahead of the event and may also extend their stay after its conclusion. She stressed that this stressed the need to ensure their safety and security at all times.
She added that BPS officers will execute their duties with humility, professionalism, and vigilance, ensuring that all visitors enjoy a safe and welcoming environment throughout their stay. The Commissioner also highlighted that the successful hosting of the World Athletics Relays presents an opportunity for Botswana to showcase its capabilities and reinforce its reputation as a destination of choice.
The assurance by Botswana police emphasises the commitment by Eswatini government and other nations’ governments to ensure the safety of people visiting their respective countries.
