MANZINI — The Manzini Choir is set to celebrate 50 years of musical excellence and cultural influence with a Golden Jubilee event scheduled for October 31, promising a fresh fusion of music styles and a nationwide celebration.
The milestone celebration will take place in Manzini and is expected to attract music lovers, former and current members, and supporters from across the country. According to the choir’s Public Relations Officer, Wandile Dlamini, the Golden Jubilee marks not only longevity but also resilience and consistency in Eswatini’s choral music space.
“We are celebrating 50 years of existence and consistency, and compared to other choirs we started with, we are still standing strong and competing even in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region,” said Dlamini.
He explained that the event will go beyond traditional choral performances. The choir plans to introduce a mix of different music genres to appeal to a wider audience and make the celebration more inclusive. This approach aims to bring together both choral music followers and general music lovers.
As part of the celebrations, the programme will include a dinner concert and roadshows across the country. These activities are designed to engage communities and build excitement ahead of the main event. “This celebration is open to all music lovers, not only choral followers, as we will feature different music performances to make the event inclusive and impactful,” Dlamini added.
Founded over five decades ago, the Manzini Choir has built a strong legacy rooted in discipline, harmony and cultural preservation. Over the years, it has played a key role in developing choral music in Eswatini and has represented the country on regional platforms, maintaining a competitive presence in the SADC region.
The choir continues to remain active and relevant, even as many groups from its era have faded. As part of its current calendar, the choir is also preparing for the upcoming Eswatini Choral Society competition scheduled for May, where leading choirs from across the country are expected to compete.
Dlamini said preparations for the Golden Jubilee are already underway, with anticipation continuing to grow. The celebration is expected to highlight unity, legacy and artistic excellence, while also honouring the choir’s long-standing contribution to the country’s music industry.
