MBABANE – The battle for top honours in the inaugural Mu & Lee E30 000 Pool League has intensified following the conclusion of the first round on Sunday, with five teams emerging as serious contenders for the championship.
As the second round now set to begin, the race for the title is expected to deliver thrilling action as teams push for consistency in what has already proven to be a highly competitive campaign.
Malkerns completed the first round at the summit of the standings with 23 points. However, their lead remains far from comfortable, with second-placed Bhunya trailing by only two points. Green Archers are also firmly in contention in third place, just three points behind the leaders.
Way Inn occupy fourth position and remain within striking distance, sitting six points off the pace. Stairs complete the top five and are seven points behind Malkerns, meaning they too remain in the hunt as the league heads into its decisive stages.
The narrow gaps among the leading sides have set up an exciting second round where every frame and every victory could prove crucial in deciding the eventual champions. While Malkerns have shown consistency to lead the standings, Bhunya and Green Archers have also demonstrated enough quality to challenge strongly for top spot.
Way Inn and Stairs, though slightly behind, will be encouraged by the fact that there is still plenty of pool to be played. A strong run of form in the second round could quickly bring them back into title contention.
League officials also noted that the top five teams have opened a noticeable gap over the chasing pack, placing them in a favourable position heading into the next phase of the competition.
MRPA Secretary Musa Dlamini confirmed that the official first-round standings would be released once all remaining results had been verified.
“We will share the final results and standings of the first round once all matches have concluded. We also remind our member teams of the special general meeting to be held in Malkerns this coming Saturday,” said Dlamini.
He added that each affiliated team is expected to send two officials to the meeting, with the title race wide open and several teams still in contention, supporters can expect fireworks when the second round gets underway.
