EZULWINI – The Republic of China (Taiwan) has stood by its global role and commitment to deepen cooperation with Eswatini, with President Lai Ching-te declaring that “no country has the right to block our efforts to contribute to the world.”
The remarks were delivered in a recorded video message during the official opening of the Ezulwini Palazzo, the International Convention Centre (ICC), where he linked Taiwan’s international position to resilience in the face of external pressure and a determination to expand global engagement.
President Lai said Taiwan and Eswatini’s long standing partnership has delivered tangible development results, including major infrastructure and energy projects aimed at boosting economic stability and creating jobs.
He highlighted a strategic oil reserve facility expected to be completed in 2028, saying it would help shield Eswatini from future energy shocks while reflecting “His Majesty’s foresight, commitment, and courage to protect his country.”
He also pointed to the Taiwan Industrial Innovation Park as a catalyst for attracting foreign investment and expanding employment opportunities in Eswatini, adding that both nations are working together not only for national progress but also for wider global contribution.
President Lai praised King Mswati III for what he described as four decades of strong leadership that has driven economic growth, infrastructure development, and social progress. He noted that Eswatini’s electricity access has reached about 85% of the population, among the highest in sub Saharan Africa, and said the economy has grown significantly under the King’s reign.
“The strengthened partnership is a result of His Majesty’s brilliant and outstanding leadership,” he said, adding that Eswatini now stands as a “jewel of Africa” due to progress in key development sectors.
The President further stressed Taiwan’s right to international participation, stating that its 23 million people deserve full engagement with the global community. He said increasing external pressure would only deepen Taiwan’s resolve.
“The greater the external pressure we face, the more courage and resolve we have. We will strengthen our capabilities and steadily deepen our global engagement,” he said.
He added that Eswatini and Taiwan share a relationship rooted in mutual trust, describing Emaswati as “family” and thanking the country for its continued support on the international stage.
His Majesty King Mswati III, expressed appreciation for Taiwan’s financial and technical support across various national projects, including contributions toward the ICC development. He said the partnership has been instrumental in helping Eswatini pursue its development ambitions.
The King also extended gratitude on behalf of the nation, noting the importance of continued cooperation between the two partners. The event underscored the long standing diplomatic ties between Eswatini and Taiwan, marked by shared development projects and consistent political support over decades.
