EZULWINI – His Majesty King Mswati III’s 40/58 double celebration became a major talking point during the launch of the eighth edition of the Imbube Marathon, which is slated for October 17, 2026.
The sporting event was launched on Monday, 27 April 2026 at Happy Valley Hotel, where several speakers took turns congratulating Their Majesties for what they described as a well-organised and successful national celebration.
The 40/58 celebrations marked King Mswati III’s 40 years on the throne and his 58th birthday, with festivities taking place throughout this past weekend.
Praise From ENPF Chief Executive
The first to offer congratulatory remarks was Futhie Tembe, Chief Executive Officer of Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF). Tembe said the celebrations had been well planned and successfully executed.
She added that both the nation and members of the international community had been pleased with what they witnessed during the weekend-long programme. According to Tembe, the smooth running of the celebrations reflected the country’s strong organisational ability and commitment to hosting major national events.
Culture And Heritage Recognised
The second speaker to commend the occasion was Makhosini Mndawe from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Mndawe said the manner in which the celebrations were organised showed that the country had fully prepared for the occasion and did not allow the opportunity to pass without meaningful participation.
He also praised the way Eswatini’s culture and heritage were showcased to the world. Mndawe said such events played an important role in preserving national identity while also promoting the country internationally.
Minister Highlights Historic Year
Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Hon. Bongani Nzima also joined in praising the celebrations. He said this year’s programme was not an ordinary national event, but one of special historic importance.
The minister highlighted that, apart from the King’s double celebration, the country had also witnessed the official opening of the Palazzo Ezulwini International Convention Centre. He said this added further significance to an already memorable national occasion.
Culture Day Impresses Guests
Minister Nzima also praised the showcasing of various cultural dances during Culture Day, held at Ludzidzini Royal Residence on Sunday, 26 April 2026. He said the performances had allowed local and international guests to appreciate Eswatini’s rich traditions and diverse cultural heritage.
The speakers collectively hailed Their Majesties for hosting an event they described as exceptionally planned, well-coordinated and successfully delivered. The remarks reflected continued national pride following a weekend of celebrations attended by thousands of emaSwati and visiting dignitaries.
