MBABANE – The Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture has commended the successful hosting of cultural activities held over the weekend as part of the 40/58 Double Celebrations, describing them as a powerful reflection of Eswatini’s rich heritage and growing global cultural influence.
In an interview with Eswatini TV, Chief Executive Officer Stanley Dlamini praised the high standard of performances showcased during the festivities, noting that they demonstrated significant progress in the country’s cultural sector.
“The commitment and excellence displayed show that Eswatini is not only preserving its traditions but positioning itself as a source of knowledge and a benchmark for cultural excellence,” he said.
The CEO further highlighted that the Kingdom continues to offer a unique platform where other nations are invited to showcase their cultural heritage in the presence of Their Majesties, fostering unity and mutual respect.
The celebrations, held at Somhlolo National Stadium and Ludzidzini Royal Residence, brought together local and international cultural groups in a vibrant display of tradition. Cultural troupes from Mozambique, Botswana and South Africa’s Zulu nation joined emaSwati in a colourful exchange of song and dance.
He emphasised that international frameworks, including those of the United Nations, encourage the use of cultural diversity as a tool for unity rather than conflict, adding that Eswatini continues to embody this principle by celebrating different traditions in harmony.
Since Friday, the celebrations have featured a blend of traditional and contemporary performances. Thousands witnessed traditional dance disciplines such as Ummiso, Ingadla and Sibhaca, performed by nearly 1,800 participants drawn from schools and communities across the country.
On Culture Day at Ludzidzini, the arena came alive with rhythmic songs and energetic dances, drawing large crowds. A mass choir, dressed in the national colours, formed a symbolic display of the country’s flag while singing praises of His Majesty. His Royal Highness Prince Bandzile Dlamini also delivered a spirited Sibhaca performance, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the day.
Day Two of the celebrations, held at the International Convention Centre, featured contemporary entertainment, with Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido and local artist Sandz delivering electrifying performances that kept guests on their feet.
Their Majesties King Mswati III and Indlovukazi graced the celebrations, joined by regional and international dignitaries including Hakainde Hichilema, King Letsie III, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, Ian Khama and Jacob Zuma.
The festivities concluded on a high note as His Majesty and dignitaries joined Libutfo on stage for a lively Sibhimbi performance, symbolising unity and national pride.
Dlamini reiterated that such events play a critical role in strengthening national identity and promoting the creative industry. “Eswatini continues to stand as a cultural capital, where heritage is preserved, celebrated and shared with the world,” he said.
The 40/58 Double Celebrations mark His Majesty’s 58th birthday and 40 years on the throne, cementing a legacy deeply rooted in culture, unity and national pride.
