PIGGS PEAK– Councillor Sipho Shongwe has been re-elected Mayor of Piggs Peak Town Council, reaffirming his leadership role following the 2026/2027 inaugural Council elections held on May 5, 2026.
Shongwe, who serves as Ward One Councillor, secured four out of seven votes, earning renewed confidence from fellow councillors to continue steering the municipality’s leadership and development agenda.
His re-election is viewed as a continuation of his active involvement in local government and regional development initiatives within the Piggs Peak area, where he has been serving in leadership structures and contributing to municipal governance.
He will continue to oversee Council operations with a focus on strengthening service delivery, improving coordination within the municipality, and advancing development priorities for the town.
Councillor Lungile Dlamini of Ward 6 was elected Vice Mayor, marking a leadership partnership expected to enhance efficiency and strengthen Council administration.
In other key appointments, Councillor Lucky Tfwala of Ward 3 was re-elected Chairperson of the Finance Committee, which is responsible for financial oversight, budgeting processes, and ensuring the municipality’s financial stability.
Councillor Muzi Simelane was elected Deputy Chairperson of the Finance Committee, while Councillor Bongani Phiri of Ward 5 will serve as a member.
The full Council also includes Councillor Sicelo Mavuso of Ward 4, Councillor Tito Simelane, an appointee of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, and Councillor Dr Glory Msibi, also a ministerial appointee.
The new Council leadership is expected to prioritise improved service delivery, sound financial management, and sustainable development initiatives for Piggs Peak Town during the 2026/2027 term.
