Culture takes centre stage at Ingwenyama Cup

LOBAMBA– His Majesty King Mswati III has reinforced the importance of culture in national celebrations by significantly increasing participation allowances for cultural groups during the 2026 Ingwenyama Cup final held at Somhlolo National Stadium.
The adjustment sees participation support for groups such as Lutsango, Lacwebetelako, Imbali and Sibhaca rise from E65 000 to E110 000, while Timbongi groups have seen their allocation increase from E25 000 to E50 000.
Announcement delivered on behalf of the King
The announcement was delivered on behalf of His Majesty by Prince Nhlangabeza during the highly anticipated final on Sunday, which drew thousands of emaSwati from across the country.
The event blended football excitement with rich cultural displays, creating a vibrant atmosphere that celebrated both sport and heritage.
Stadium erupts in celebration
The increased support for cultural groups was met with great enthusiasm, as spectators responded with traditional songs and chants of “halala la,” filling the stadium with energy and pride.
Colourful performances from Lutsango, Imbali, Sibhaca and Timbongi groups brought the stadium to life, showcasing Eswatini’s rich traditions through dance, music and poetry.

Speaking through Prince Nhlangabeza, His Majesty expressed satisfaction with the growing recognition of cultural groups at national events, highlighting their role in preserving the nation’s identity.
“Culture must continue to lead in our national gatherings because it is the foundation of who we are as a nation,” the message conveyed on behalf of the King stated.
