MBABANE – The Rugby Rising Play (RRP) “Girl Power Rugby” programme continues to make positive strides in developing young female rugby players in Eswatini through structured coaching and capacity-building workshops.
Development coaches responsible for delivering RRP sessions recently gathered for a progression workshop under the guidance of Eswatini Rugby Union (ERU) World Rugby Coaching Educator, Steve Reynolds. The workshop focused on Modules 7 to 10 of the programme, aimed at preparing teenage girls for the transition into T1 Rugby.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen women’s rugby development in the country while creating more opportunities for young girls to actively participate in sport. Coaches were equipped with advanced skills and practical knowledge to improve player development, safety, teamwork, and technical understanding of the game.

The programme has also received support from several sporting organisations and rugby clubs, including Rugby Afrique, Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council, and Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association.
Local rugby clubs supporting the programme include Uneswa Titans Rugby Club, Mbabane Cheetahs Rugby Club, Mbabane Jaguars Rugby Club, Knights Rugby Club, Dvokolwako Buffaloes Rugby Club, Manyovu Rugby Club-Wasp, and Sithobela Rugby Centre Club.
Schools and grassroots rugby structures such as Eswatini Schools Sports Association and Get Into Rugby – Eswatini are also playing an important role in ensuring that more girls are introduced to the sport from an early age.
The “Girl Power Rugby” programme is expected to continue empowering young girls through sport while contributing to the growth of women’s rugby in Eswatini.
